Microsoft Exchange 2013 Installation with PowerShell

The below article shows you how to install Exchange 2013 on Windows Server 2012 by using least GUI’s. This is very useful for PowerShell lovers.

Before we go-ahead with the installation, will check the prerequisites,

1. Run Windows update on each server. For more information Deployment Security Checklist.

2. Make sure that the functional level of your forest is at least Windows Server 2003, and that the schema master is running Windows Server 2003 with Service Pack 2 or later.

 

Prepare Active Directory for Exchange 2013

The computer you want to use to prepare Active Directory for Exchange 2013 has specific prerequisites that must be met.

Install the following software on the computer that will be used to prepare Active Directory:

· Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5

· Windows Management Framework 3.0

 

Note: .NET Framework 4.5 and Windows Management Framework 3.0 are included with Windows Server 2012 and don’t need to be installed separately

 

Prepare Schema – setup /ps /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms

Prepare AD -setup /PrepareAD /OrganizationName:Valakulu /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms

Prepare Domain – setup /pd /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms

Install the required Windows roles and features using PowerShell

CAS Server Role

Install-WindowsFeature AS-HTTP-Activation, Desktop-Experience, NET-Framework-45-Features, RPC-over-HTTP-proxy, RSAT-Clustering, RSAT-Clustering-CmdInterface, RSAT-Clustering-Mgmt, RSAT-Clustering-PowerShell, Web-Mgmt-Console, WAS-Process-Model, Web-Asp-Net45, Web-Basic-Auth, Web-Client-Auth, Web-Digest-Auth, Web-Dir-Browsing, Web-Dyn-Compression, Web-Http-Errors, Web-Http-Logging, Web-Http-Redirect, Web-Http-Tracing, Web-ISAPI-Ext, Web-ISAPI-Filter, Web-Lgcy-Mgmt-Console, Web-Metabase, Web-Mgmt-Console, Web-Mgmt-Service, Web-Net-Ext45, Web-Request-Monitor, Web-Server, Web-Stat-Compression, Web-Static-Content, Web-Windows-Auth, Web-WMI, Windows-Identity-Foundation

After you’ve installed the operating system roles and features, install the following software:

· Microsoft Unified Communications Managed API 4.0, Core Runtime 64-bit

 

Mailbox Server Role

Install-WindowsFeature AS-HTTP-Activation, Desktop-Experience, NET-Framework-45-Features, RPC-over-HTTP-proxy, RSAT-Clustering, RSAT-Clustering-CmdInterface, RSAT-Clustering-Mgmt, RSAT-Clustering-PowerShell, Web-Mgmt-Console, WAS-Process-Model, Web-Asp-Net45, Web-Basic-Auth, Web-Client-Auth, Web-Digest-Auth, Web-Dir-Browsing, Web-Dyn-Compression, Web-Http-Errors, Web-Http-Logging, Web-Http-Redirect, Web-Http-Tracing, Web-ISAPI-Ext, Web-ISAPI-Filter, Web-Lgcy-Mgmt-Console, Web-Metabase, Web-Mgmt-Console, Web-Mgmt-Service, Web-Net-Ext45, Web-Request-Monitor, Web-Server, Web-Stat-Compression, Web-Static-Content, Web-Windows-Auth, Web-WMI, Windows-Identity-Foundation

After you’ve installed the operating system roles and features, install the following software in the order shown:

· Microsoft Unified Communications Managed API 4.0, Core Runtime 64-bit

· Microsoft Office 2010 Filter Pack 64 bit

· Microsoft Office 2010 Filter Pack SP1 64 bit

 

Installation

CAS Server Role and Mailbox Server Role Installation

./Setup.exe /m:Install /Roles:ca,mb,mt /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms

/InstallWindowsComponents /DBFilePath:"E:\MDB001\MDB001.edb" /LogFolderPath:"F:\MDB-001" /MdbName:"MDB001"
